UAE Resume Checklist

A strong CV is what gets you into the room. In the UAE's competitive, international job market, employers and recruiters scan quickly — so a clear, relevant, well-structured resume makes the difference between a shortlist and a pass. Use this checklist to make sure yours is ready before you apply.

What to include on a UAE CV

• Contact details and location — name, phone, email, and the emirate you are based in (or willing to relocate to).
• A short professional summary — three or four lines on who you are and the value you bring, tailored to the role.
• Work experience with achievements — in reverse-chronological order, focused on results, not just duties.
• Education and qualifications — including any professional certifications relevant to your field.
• Skills and languages — technical skills and languages spoken, which matter in the UAE's multilingual workplaces.
• Visa and residency status — many UAE employers ask about this upfront, so stating it saves time.

Formatting your CV

• Keep it to two pages where possible — concise and relevant beats long.
• Use a clean, consistent layout with clear headings and plenty of white space.
• Save and send as a PDF so your formatting holds on any device.
• Use straightforward section headings so applicant tracking systems can read your CV.

The photo question

Including a professional headshot is common on CVs in the UAE and wider Gulf region, though it is not mandatory. If you include one, keep it professional and current. If you would rather not, a strong, well-structured CV stands on its own.

Common mistakes to avoid

• Typos and inconsistent formatting — always proofread, ideally with a second pair of eyes.
• A generic summary that could apply to any job — tailor it to each role.
• Listing responsibilities without outcomes — show the impact you had.
